filedone's remote MCP server lets an AI assistant use filedone's tools for you: merge, split, compress or convert PDFs, read the text in a scan, pull tables into a spreadsheet, translate a PDF or fix a photo. Add the server address to your assistant, sign in with your filedone account, then ask for what you need. Free tools are free. Credit tools use your filedone credits, and the assistant tells you the price before it runs one.
Server address
https://api.filedone.ai/mcpA remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP. You sign in with your filedone account, or use an API key from your account page.
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)
- Open Customize, then Connectors.
- Choose + Add, then Add custom connector.
- Name it filedone, paste
https://api.filedone.ai/mcpas the address, choose Continue, keep the sign-in settings Claude finds, and choose Add. - Choose Connect. filedone.ai opens: sign in, then choose Allow.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first, under Organization settings, then Connectors; you then connect it from Customize. A connector added on the web also works in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. The Free plan allows one custom connector.
ChatGPT
filedone is not in ChatGPT's plugin directory yet. Until it is, a ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace can add it as a custom MCP server on chatgpt.com:
- Open Plugins, choose +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it filedone and enter
https://api.filedone.ai/mcpunder Connection. - Choose OAuth for authentication.
- Confirm the warning, choose Create as a plugin, and when ChatGPT asks, sign in on filedone.ai and choose Allow.
On Business, only admins and owners can add one; on Enterprise and Edu, an admin can give you permission. ChatGPT asks you to confirm before a tool that makes or changes a file runs.
Claude Code
Add the server, then type /mcp in Claude Code and choose filedone to sign in:
claude mcp add --transport http filedone https://api.filedone.ai/mcpOr, with an API key instead of signing in:
claude mcp add --transport http filedone https://api.filedone.ai/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer fdk_your_key"Cursor
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project). Cursor asks you to sign in with your filedone account when it first connects:
{
"mcpServers": {
"filedone": {
"url": "https://api.filedone.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Or, with an API key kept in the FILEDONE_API_KEY environment variable:
{
"mcpServers": {
"filedone": {
"url": "https://api.filedone.ai/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer ${env:FILEDONE_API_KEY}"
}
}
}
}VS Code (GitHub Copilot)
With VS Code installed, this button adds the server for you. VS Code opens filedone.ai to sign in the first time.
Install in VS CodeOr add this to .vscode/mcp.json (or run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette):
{
"servers": {
"filedone": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.filedone.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Any other MCP client
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP can use the address above. To sign in, the server answers with the standard OAuth discovery documents, and the client opens filedone.ai for you (PKCE, client ID metadata documents and dynamic client registration are supported). Or send an API key in this header:
Authorization: Bearer fdk_your_keySign-in and API keys
- Signing in is the usual way: the assistant opens filedone.ai, you sign in with your email, and you choose Allow. A free account is enough.
- Connected apps and API keys are listed on your account page, where you can disconnect an app or revoke a key at any time.
- An API key is for apps that cannot sign in. Create one on the account page, under API keys. It is shown once, so copy it then.
- A key acts as you. Keep it out of shared files and code repositories, and revoke it if it may have leaked.
- An account can have up to five keys at a time.
What it costs
Free tools are free. Credit tools use your filedone credits, exactly as on the site. Before a credit tool runs, the assistant asks filedone for the price, tells you the credits it needs and your balance, and runs it only if you agree. Credits are added on your filedone account, not inside the assistant. The credit prices are on the pricing page.
Limits
- A free account runs one job at a time. If the assistant starts another run before the first one finishes, filedone asks it to wait and try again.
- Most free tools finish in seconds. A longer run gives the assistant a job number to check back on, and it fetches the result when it is ready.
- A file can come from a link (up to 25 MB), straight from the assistant (up to 2 MB), or from an upload link the assistant gives you. Each tool also has its own limits on size and pages.
- An account can send up to 120 files an hour through the server.
- The download links in the assistant's answers stop working after five minutes.
Privacy
- A file reaches filedone from a link, from an upload, from the assistant, or from the chat app itself. From then on the same rules apply as on the site: it is deleted 2 hours after upload and not used to train AI.
- The assistant's company sees the names of our tools, what you asked for and what we answered, which can include text read from your file. As the connector, we do not send them your file.
- The details are in the privacy notice, under "Using filedone from an AI assistant".

Questions
What is the filedone MCP server?
A remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at https://api.filedone.ai/mcp. It lets Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor and other AI assistants use filedone's PDF and image tools for you, signed in with your own filedone account.
Is it free?
Free tools are free, and a free filedone account is enough to use them. Credit tools use your filedone credits: the assistant asks filedone for the price first, tells you the credits and your balance, and runs the tool only if you agree.
Do I need an API key?
No. Most assistants sign you in with your filedone account. An API key is for apps that cannot sign in, such as a script, or for coding tools where you prefer a key. Create one on your account page.
Can I buy credits inside the assistant?
No. Credits are bought on filedone.ai. If a run needs more credits than you have, the assistant tells you.
Does the assistant’s company get my file?
As the connector, we do not send them your file. They see what passes through the assistant: the names of our tools, what you asked for and what we answered, which can include text read from your file and download links that stop working after a few minutes.
How long does filedone keep my files?
The same as on the website: files are deleted two hours after upload, and we do not use them to train AI models.
