How to sign a PDF online for free

  1. Choose the PDF: one file of up to 50 MB and 300 pages. It opens in this browser tab and is never uploaded.
  2. Make your signature: draw it with a finger, pen or mouse, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of it on white paper.
  3. Place it on the page, drag its corner to resize it, add the date if you want, and download the signed PDF.

What this tool does

Choose a PDF of up to 50 MB and 300 pages. Make your signature: draw it in the box with a finger, a pen or a mouse; type your name and pick one of three handwriting styles (one writes Hindi too); or upload a photo or scan of it, and the paper around the ink is made see-through. Add it to the page, drag it into place and drag its corner to resize it — or use the arrow keys — on as many pages as you like, and copy it to every page for initials. Add the date if you want it, written the way you choose. The signed PDF is ready to download as you go. Your signature is drawn into the page itself, not left as a layer someone could drag away. It is a picture of your signature, like one signed on paper and scanned — not a digital certificate. Everything happens in your browser: the file and your signature are not uploaded, and no other mark is added.

A picture of a signature, not a digital certificate

A signature made here is a picture of your signature drawn into the page, like signing on paper and scanning it. Many everyday forms and agreements accept that. A document that asks for a certificate-based digital signature (in India, a DSC or Aadhaar eSign) needs one of those instead, which this page does not make.

Our sample, signed

Our sample is an invented two-page rental agreement with lines to sign on, 1,836 bytes. Signed by the code this page ships, with a typed signature in blue ink on page 2, the date beside it and initials on page 1, it came out at 22,559 bytes. The signature and the initials are each a small picture with a see-through background (436 × 84 and 150 × 82 pixels), drawn into the page, so they look the same in every reader.

Signing more than one page

Add your signature on each page that needs it, as many times as you like. For initials, make them as a second signature, place them once and press "Copy to every page"; each copy can then be moved or removed on its own.

What happens to your file

Your file never leaves your device: this page opens it, changes it and saves the result in your browser, and nothing is uploaded. Only an AI action uploads it, when you run one, and its price is shown first.

No AI provider sees it unless you run an AI action. The page sends us one count that a run happened — no file, no name, no size. Details on the privacy page.

Questions

Is a signature made here legally valid?

It is a picture of your signature placed on the page — like signing on paper and scanning it, which is what most "fill and sign" tools do. Many everyday forms and agreements accept that. Some documents need a certificate-based digital signature instead (in India, a DSC or Aadhaar eSign), which this page does not make. If you are unsure, ask whoever asked you to sign.

Is my PDF or my signature uploaded?

No. The PDF is drawn and signed in your browser with pdf.js and pdf-lib, downloaded from this site when you choose the file; the handwriting fonts come from this site too. Your signature is not saved, and the only thing we are told is that a run happened — not the file, its name or anything you drew or typed.

How do I sign more than one page, or add my initials to every page?

Use the page arrows and add your signature on each page you need, as many times as you like. For initials, make them as a second signature, place them once, and press "Copy to every page". Each one can be moved, resized or removed on its own.

Can I use a photo of my signature?

Yes. Choose Upload and pick a PNG or JPG — a phone photo of your signature on white paper works. The paper is made see-through by brightness, so only the ink lands on the page; if faint strokes vanish or grey paper stays, change the clean-up under More options.

Can someone move or delete my signature afterwards?

Not in a reader: the signature is drawn into the page content, not added as a comment or a layer that can be dragged away. Like any page of any PDF, it can still be edited with an editing program. Nothing else is drawn on your file; its metadata records that it was made at filedone.ai with no AI involved. A locked PDF must be unlocked first, on the Unlock PDF page.
