How to change a date or an amount in a PDF
If the PDF has real text, an editor that replaces text runs can change the date or the amount in the same font and position. If it is a scan, the old figure has to be painted out and the new one drawn to match. Either way, change only documents you are entitled to change: correcting your own invoice is normal, altering someone else's record is fraud.

Change a date or amount in three steps
- Check what kind of PDF it isTry to select the date with your mouse. If single words highlight, the PDF has text; if not, it is a scan.

- Check every place the figure appearsA date or a total is often repeated — in a header, a summary and a table. Name each one, then compare the before-and-after view before you download.
Legitimate reasons to change a PDF
- Correcting a wrong due date or quantity on an invoice or quotation you issued.
- Moving the date or venue on an event flyer, a notice or an invitation you made.
- Fixing a typo in a letter or report you wrote, when the source file is lost.
- Updating a draft agreement before it is signed, with the other side's knowledge.
- Making test documents — for that, start from our fictional sample files instead.
What filedone refuses, at any price
Before any edit runs, a classifier checks the document. It refuses to edit identity documents (Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID and similar), passports, driving and other licences, currency, anything carrying an official seal or stamp, court and police documents, prescriptions and medical records, certificates, and degrees or mark sheets from real boards and universities. On those you can still extract the text, redact parts or translate the document, because reading a document does not make a false one.
Bank statements and payslips are not refused today, but the edit is logged with the document class, and changing an amount, a date or a name on one to misrepresent income or funds is document fraud and is forbidden by the rules of use. Invoices, quotations and receipts may be edited.
Every edited file says it was edited
A PDF changed by filedone's editors carries metadata saying it was edited with AI, a unique identifier and a signed provenance manifest (C2PA) beside it. There is no visible mark on the page, but software can tell, and the file's fingerprint is kept for a year. If you pass the file on, say it was edited.
The free way, and its limits
Add text to a PDF lets you white out the old figure and type a new one, free, in your browser. It does not match the original font or remove the old text from the file: the white box sits on top, and the old figure can still be found by selecting or searching. For a clean change, use an editor that replaces the text.
Questions
Can I change the date on a PDF for free?
You can cover it with a white box and type over it for free with Add text to a PDF. The old date stays in the file under the box, and the new one is in whatever font you pick. Replacing the text itself, in the original font, is a paid AI job.
Will the new amount be in the same font?
On a PDF with text, the editor takes the font, size, colour and position from the original run. On a scan, it picks the nearest matching font from its library and draws it at the size of the ink.
Can I change the amount on a bank statement?
The editor does not refuse bank statements today, but the edit is logged, and changing a figure to misrepresent your income or balance is fraud and breaks the rules of use. To practise on a statement, use the fictional sample bank statement.
Why was my document refused?
The classifier recognised it as one of the refused classes — an ID, a certificate, a document with an official stamp and so on. The refusal names what you can still do with it, such as extracting, redacting or translating.
