Sample scanned letter

This is a one-page letter scanned in colour at 150 dpi, on cream paper, with the fold line that a letter gets from its envelope. It has a reference number, a date and a rupee amount in the body — the details people most often need to change or copy out of a scanned letter.

What is in the file

A housing society (fictional) writes to a member that the monthly maintenance charge goes up from ₹2,200 to ₹2,450 on 1 November 2026. There is a coloured letterhead, an address block, a subject line, five paragraphs and a signature.

The fold crosses the text, which is where OCR drops or merges letters and where an editor has to rebuild the paper behind a changed word without leaving a seam.

The facts

Measured from the file itself by the script that made it.

What to test with it

Licence, and who is in it

Nobody. Every company, person, address, account number and figure in the file was made up by the script that drew it, and every page carries the word SPECIMEN and a line saying it is fictional; the PDF's metadata says so too. The file is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0, so you can use it in tests, demos, courses and products without asking. Last updated 8 October 2026.

Questions

Is the signature a real person's?

No. It is a random line drawn by the script that made the file, signed with the invented name "Sam Specimen". Nobody signed it.

Why colour rather than black and white?

Many phones and scanners save letters in colour, and colour paper makes painting out a word harder: the patch has to match the cream of the paper and the fold, not plain white.

Can I use this file in my own tests, product or course?

Yes. It is released under CC0 1.0, a public-domain dedication: copy, change, redistribute and use it commercially, with no need to ask and no need to credit filedone (a link is welcome).

Is anything in it real?

No. Every company, person, address, account number, tax number and figure was invented by the script that made the file. Every page says SPECIMEN and that it is fictional, and so does the PDF's metadata.
