Sample receipt

This is a till receipt from a fictional cafe in two forms: a digital PDF on an 80 mm roll, with real text, and a JPG that looks like a phone photo of the printed slip lying on a desk, turned 4 degrees with a shadow. Expense and receipt-scanning tools see both kinds every day.

What is in the file

Four items, a total of ₹380.00 with 5% GST included, a receipt number, a date and time, and a till number, in the monospaced type receipt printers use.

The photo has a dark wooden background, a soft shadow and an angle — the things a receipt reader must find its way past before it reads a word.

The facts

Measured from the file itself by the script that made it.

What to test with it

Licence, and who is in it

Nobody. Every company, person, address, account number and figure in the file was made up by the script that drew it, and every page carries the word SPECIMEN and a line saying it is fictional; the PDF's metadata says so too. The file is dedicated to the public domain under CC0 1.0, so you can use it in tests, demos, courses and products without asking. Last updated 8 October 2026.

Questions

Why is there a photo as well as a PDF?

Receipts often reach software as a phone photo rather than a PDF. The photo tests finding the slip, straightening it and reading thermal-printer type; the PDF gives the exact text to compare against.

Does the GST line add up?

Yes. The total of ₹380.00 includes GST at 5%, which is ₹18.10 (380 × 5 ÷ 105, rounded to the paisa).

Can I use this file in my own tests, product or course?

Yes. It is released under CC0 1.0, a public-domain dedication: copy, change, redistribute and use it commercially, with no need to ask and no need to credit filedone (a link is welcome).

Is anything in it real?

No. Every company, person, address, account number, tax number and figure was invented by the script that made the file. Every page says SPECIMEN and that it is fictional, and so does the PDF's metadata.
