What this tool does
Choose a picture and it turns black and white at once: every colour becomes the grey it looks like (the standard mix of red, green and blue a JPEG uses for brightness). Move the contrast slider for a softer or punchier look; the preview follows. Choose "Black and white only" for a scan, a signature or a stamp — every pixel becomes pure black or pure white. Under More options: brightness, the point where grey turns black or white, and the file type and quality; the picture keeps its own type, and an iPhone HEIC comes back as a JPG. See-through areas stay see-through. With several pictures, "Download all" does every one the same way and gives you one zip. Nothing is uploaded, no watermark is added, and hidden details (camera, location, date) are not copied.
What happens to your file
Your file never leaves your device. This page opens it, changes it and saves the result in your browser; nothing is uploaded, so there is no copy on our servers to delete.
No AI provider sees it either. The page sends us one count that a run happened — no file, no name, no size. Details on the privacy page.
Questions
Does my photo get uploaded?
No. The page opens the photo, makes it black and white and saves the result inside your browser tab; nothing is uploaded and there is no copy on our servers. The only thing the page sends us is a count that a run happened — no picture, no file name, no size.
What is the difference between shades of grey and black and white only?
Shades of grey is a black-and-white photo: every colour becomes a grey of the same brightness. Black and white only has no greys at all — each pixel is pure black or pure white — which suits a scanned page, a signature or a stamp. Move the cut point under More options to keep faint lines; save it as a PNG there for the smallest, crispest file.
What does the contrast slider do?
It spreads the greys apart or brings them together around middle grey: to the right, darks get darker and lights lighter, for a punchier photo; to the left, everything moves towards grey, for a softer one. Zero leaves the greys exactly as the colours made them.
Can I do many photos at once?
Yes, up to ten. Choose them together, set the look on the first, and "Download all" does every one the same way and gives you a single zip.
Does it add a watermark or change anything else?
No visible mark or watermark is added, and the picture keeps its size in pixels. Hidden details (camera, location, date) are not copied. The file does carry a small metadata record (XMP) saying it was made with filedone.ai with human edits and no AI, with a provenance id.
