What this tool does

Choose one HEIC photo, or up to ten. If your browser can open HEIC itself (a recent Safari on an iPhone or a Mac can), it does; otherwise the page loads libheif — an open-source HEIC decoder (LGPL-3.0), served from this site with its licence and source beside it (/heif/1.23.2/SOURCE.txt) — and opens the photo with it, inside your browser tab. It takes the main picture of the file, turns it the way the file says, and saves it as a PNG, which keeps every pixel exactly (and any see-through areas) — so a photo's PNG is several times larger than its JPG. A picture over 16 megapixels is brought down to 16 first. With several photos the first is shown, and "Download all" gives you every PNG in one zip. Nothing is uploaded, no watermark is added, and the photo's hidden details (camera, location, date) are not copied into the PNG.

What happens to your file

Your file never leaves your device. This page opens it, changes it and saves the result in your browser; nothing is uploaded, so there is no copy on our servers to delete.

No AI provider sees it either. The page sends us one count that a run happened — no file, no name, no size. Details on the privacy page.

Questions

Does my photo get uploaded?

No. The page opens the photo, converts it and saves the PNG inside your browser tab; nothing is uploaded and there is no copy on our servers. When your browser needs the HEIC decoder, it is loaded from this site, not from anyone else's. The only thing the page sends us is a count that a conversion happened — no photo, no file name, no size.

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

JPG for sharing, forms and WhatsApp: it is small and opens everywhere. PNG when you will edit the photo further or need every pixel exactly as decoded — it loses nothing, but a photo's PNG is several times larger. The same page switches between them: "Convert to" at the top.

Can I convert many HEIC photos at once?

Yes, up to ten at a time. Choose or drop them together: the first is shown so you can check it, and "Download all" converts every one and gives you a single zip. A file that will not open is named and left out; the rest still download.

Will it come out the right way up, at full size?

Yes: the page follows the rotation the HEIC records, which is how an iPhone marks a photo taken upright. The size stays the same up to 16 megapixels; a larger photo, such as a 24 or 48 megapixel iPhone photo, is brought down to 16 megapixels and the page says so.

Does it keep the date and location, or add a watermark?

No watermark or visible mark is added. The date, location and camera details stored in the photo are not copied into the PNG. The file does carry a small metadata record (XMP) saying it was made with filedone.ai with human edits and no AI, with a provenance id.
